The catalyst for this education initiative was the development of the National Occupational Standards (NOS) for Massage which were released in November of 2009. Members of the SMA were significantly involved in the development of the standards and have subsequently been involved in developing Sports Massage qualifications with the specialist awarding body VTCT.
This initiative means that for the first time the profession has a progressive suite of qualifications on a government approved educational framework, the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF). Sports massage qualifications are obtainable at Levels 3, 4 and 5 all of which have been mapped against the relevant NOS and are endorsed by the SMA.
We are also delighted to have been approached by VTCT to assist in the preparation and presentation of the qualifications and consequently to provide the Association's endorsement of the resulting new QCF qualifications.
